Dr.Banerjee is a Professor at Texas A&M University at College Station and the Director of the Multi-Phase Flows & Heat Transfer Lab. (MPFHTL). He has over 25 years of research and teaching experience. Before joining his current position he was a Hiring Manager, Intellectual Property (IP) Lead and Manager of the Fluidics & Device Engineering group of the Advanced Research & Technology (ART) Division of Applied Biosystems Inc. (ABI/ Applera) which is currently merged into Life Technologies. He is leading multi-million dollar research projects in collaboration with academia and industry with a focus on the design of advanced heat transfer fluids (HTF), thermal energy storage (TES), conventional (e.g., nuclear) and renewable power production, processes and products that are at the interface of micro/nano-technologies with phase change heat transfer (boiling, condensation, phase change materials/ PCM, etc.). He holds 14 US and 5 WO patents (along with 3 patents pending) and more than 150 archival publications (including 10 book chapters and 1 book on “Nanofins”).
His sponsored projects (with academic and industrial collaborators) exceeds $22 million, enabling 15 PhD and 19 MS students to graduate under his supervision since 2005. He is an Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer and Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Nanofluids (JON). He was an associate editor and guest editor (twice) for the special issues of the ASME Journal of Nanotechnology in Engineering and Medicine (JNEM). He co-Founded Thermascape Technologies Inc. (TTI). As a student of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.), Kharagpur, he also received several awards, including: the “Amlan Sen Best Mechanical Engineering Student Award (Endowment)” at the Graduation Convocation, the “Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Scholarship” (twice) and the “J.C. Bose National Science Talent Scholar (JBNSTS)” award from the Government of India.
The scholarship of his research activities has been recognized by several awards: Pravasi Rattan Award at the Global Education Summit in British Parliament (2018); Dean’s Excellence Award (2018); “Amerra Visualization Prize” and “AM Innovation Center Prize” at the Texas New Ventures Competition (TNVC-2017), ASME Fellow (2016); selected as the Faculty Advisor for the Student Ambassador Program of United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO-2016), “Select Young Faculty Award” by TEES (2009), Summer Faculty Fellow appointment at the Department of Defense (2006, 2007, 2009) by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), “New Investigator Award” by the Texas Space Grants Consortium (2005), and the “2001 Best Journal Paper Award” by the ASME Heat Transfer Division (2002).
